XLN Audio DB-30 Drum Butter

Drum Processing That’s Actually Fun

Let’s be honest: most drum processing is tedious — EQ here, compressor there, saturator, transient shaper, repeat for every track. XLN Audio DB-30 Drum Butter was designed to kill that tedium. Six colour-coded modules, six giant macro knobs, one MAGNITUDE slider: turn knobs, get better drums. It’s the rare plugin that makes mixing feel like playing.

Meet the Six Modules of XLN Audio DB-30 Drum Butter

Boom Shack (purple) — low-end sculptor with Boom/Shack modes, pitch, decay, duck, stereo, colour and even an Acid mode for 303-style squelch on your kicks.

Shift (blue) — frequency and formant shifting with invert and stretch, perfect for turning a dull snare into something with a voice of its own.

Space (green) — booth ambience and dimension with pre-delay, ducking and pan/width control for drums that sit in a real room.

Compress (yellow) — six flavours in one: Punch, Warm, Glue, Gentle, Smack and OTT, with Down/Up balance and multiband focus.

Saturate (orange) — Console, Tape, Tube, Digital and 4-Track colour, from subtle warmth to full destruction.

More (red) — the intensity wildcard with x1, x2 and x4 stages when the track demands excess.

From Sketch to Finished in Minutes

The typical DB-30 session goes like this: load the “Better With Butter” preset, twist the macro knobs until the drums slap, then fine-tune individual modules if you feel like it. The bottom strip — Input, EQ, Cut, Tone, Air, Attack, Sustain, Clip, Output — means you never leave the plugin for basic channel duties.
