discoDSP Discovery Pro 8.23 – Virtual Analog Synth Plugin

Some synths chase trends; Discovery Pro chases a classic. discoDSP’s flagship virtual analog synth draws its inspiration from the Nord Lead — the red hardware that defined virtual analog in the late ’90s — and builds it into a modern software instrument with four independent layers, twelve oscillators, sixteen filter types and 128-voice polyphony. Version 8.23 adds multicore rendering, MPE support, an expanded wavetable engine and over 5,000 presets. At 60% off (€79.99 instead of €199.00), it is a serious synth at a hobbyist price.

This is the smart-money way to buy Discovery Pro: the full plugin, your own license key, delivered to your email in minutes.

A Nord-inspired architecture, modernized

Four layers of synthesis, each with three oscillators plus a noise source, feed sixteen selectable filter types — then everything runs through a dual-mode arpeggiator and an effects suite (phaser, chorus, delay, EQ, bitcrusher, compressor, distortion, limiter and more). The wavetable engine with 128 waveforms and PADsynth resynthesis opens territory far beyond the original hardware inspiration, while MPE support makes it expressive on modern controllers. Nord Lead 2 SysEx import is a love letter to hardware owners: pull your patches straight off the red synth.

5,000 presets is not a typo

The factory library — over 5,000 presets including work from respected sound designers — covers every genre the synth touches: electronic, ambient, soundtrack, EDM, industrial. With four layers per patch, each preset can be a complete performance: bass, pad, lead and texture in one instance. The browser makes the scale manageable instead of overwhelming.

Built for real sessions, not just demos

VST3, AU and a standalone application on Windows 10/11 and macOS 10.15+ (Intel and Apple Silicon). Version 8.23’s multicore rendering keeps the 128-voice engine efficient. This is a mature, stable instrument — two decades of discoDSP development — not a first-release gamble.
