Roland SYSTEM-8 & SYSTEM-1 Bundle – Virtual Analog Synths

Roland’s analog legacy is not nostalgia — it is the sound of entire genres. The SYSTEM-8 & SYSTEM-1 Bundle puts two of Roland’s modern virtual analog instruments in your DAW, both built on the company’s ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior) modeling, which recreates analog circuitry component by component rather than approximating it. At €39.99 for both, this is Roland’s classic sound at a price that barely registers.

SYSTEM-8: the flagship

The SYSTEM-8 plugin is a 3-oscillator powerhouse with the kind of depth that rewards exploration. A comprehensive modulation matrix routes sources to destinations across the synth, chord memory lets you trigger rich voicings from single keys, and unison stacking thickens everything from basses to leads. The built-in arpeggiator and step sequencer turn it into a pattern machine — program evolving sequences without leaving the plugin.

Plug-Out capability is the SYSTEM-8’s signature trick: it can host Roland’s legendary synth models, expanding its sonic range far beyond its own architecture. Whether you need cutting modern leads, deep evolving pads or punchy analog-style bass, the SYSTEM-8 covers it with the unmistakable Roland character.

SYSTEM-1: immediate and aggressive

The SYSTEM-1 takes a different approach: 4 oscillators including a sub-oscillator and noise source, designed for sounds that hit hard. The SCATTER function is its wildcard — a performance-oriented control that mangles and re-sequences your sound in real time, perfect for build-ups, transitions and live tweaking. Dedicated envelope controls for filter and amp, a flexible LFO section, and built-in delay and reverb mean patches sound finished without external processing.

Together, the two synths cover the classic division of labor: SYSTEM-8 for deep, evolving, complex patches and SYSTEM-1 for immediate, aggressive, performance-ready sounds.

Authentic modeling, modern workflow

ACB modeling is what makes these more than emulations — it is circuit-level recreation of the behavior that made the originals musical. Both plugins run as VST3, AU and AAX on macOS and Windows, with authorization through Roland Cloud (online and offline options), so they drop into any DAW — Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase, Pro Tools — and behave like proper modern plugins.
