Description

Every producer has been there: a great vocal take that sounds thin, a synth line that needs to feel huge, a single violin that should sound like a section. Hiring a choir or an orchestra isn’t always an option — but Sound Particles Density makes it unnecessary. This granular effect plugin takes your single input and generates multiple detuned, repitched, spatially-moving layers from it, turning solos into ensembles with a few clicks.

The magic is in how Density thinks about sound. Instead of a simple chorus or doubler, it uses granular synthesis on a microsound timescale, splitting your audio into tiny grains and playing them back at different amplitudes, speeds, and phases. The result is genuinely new sonic material — rich, organic layers that sound like multiple musicians playing together rather than a processed copy of the original. Grammy-winning engineers have used it to turn 32-voice choirs into 300-voice walls of sound.

Start in Basic Mode: pick a small or large ensemble, set the detune amount, and optionally add a bass voice an octave down for instant weight. When you want more control, Detune Mode gives you the full granular toolkit — number of voices, voice speed, grain size, forward or reverse grain type, dynamic range, and position divergence — plus a Top View where you direct the grains’ movement through the sound field. Pitch Mode adds per-group pitch, voice count, and gain across multiple voice groups, so you can build real harmonies like a choir arranger.

What separates Density from every doubler and widener you’ve tried is movement. Static layers sound processed; moving layers sound alive. Assign movement patterns and watch the grains travel through the circular Top View display in real time — forward, backward, swirling around the listener. In immersive formats this is breathtaking; in stereo it still adds a dimension that flat wideners can’t touch.

The XY Pad turns all of this into a performance instrument: grab it with the mouse and morph two parameters at once, recording expressive swells and transitions. And when you’re feeling lucky, the randomization tool generates unexpected results instantly — a great way to break out of a creative rut.

Density supports every format in your workflow: stereo, 5.1, 7.1, Ambisonics up to 6th order, binaural, and Dolby Atmos 7.1.2. It runs as AAX Native, AUv2, AUv3, and VST3 on macOS 13.3+ (Intel and Apple Silicon) and Windows 11+, needing only a 2-core CPU, 4GB RAM, and 200MB of disk.

Whether you’re thickening a lead vocal, building a choir from one singer, widening synths, or designing evolving immersive textures, Density delivers the width, depth, and space your mixes are missing.

A free trial is available from Sound Particles, so you can hear Density on your own vocals and instruments before buying. The developer’s granular and particle technology has earned praise from Grammy-winning mix engineers and leading industry publications — this isn’t a gimmick effect, it’s a serious professional tool. Your individual license key arrives by email instantly after purchase, with clean authorization and no dongle required.

Pair Density with a good reverb send and the illusion is complete — generated voices, spatial movement, and room ambience combining into something no listener will guess came from a single track.

For sound designers, Density is equally powerful as a creative effect — push the detune and movement to extremes and turn any source into evolving granular textures that no synthesizer can produce.
